Injury Prevention......yeah I know, we are all a little sore after we do one of our workouts. How do you rehab after a tough workout though? Sure a nice hot bath or shower feels so good, loosening up those muscles. But the heat will just get more blood to the affected area and more blood means more inflammation. Maybe popping a couple Ibuprofen will take the ache away. It will but its been shown that Ibuprofen actually breaks down the strength of the tendons and ligaments. But there is something that you can do that will be more effective, safer and reduce the inflammation. ICE! When you get home after the workout you should take a frozen Dixie cup of water and rub it directly on the affected area for 5-10 minutes. This very direct, cooling will reduce the inflammation by slowing the blood flow to the affected area. Less inflammation will allow the affect area to heal quicker and have less pain the following day. 5-10 minutes with a Dixie cup equals about 20-30 minutes of a bag of ice on you. So go home freeze some Dixie cups and have them ready for when you get home so that you will be ready to hit hard again tomorrow!
