I saw an awesome blog the other day.  It talked about how he didnt believe that setting goals was as important as setting your "systems"  What he meant by this was that when you use goals as your primary drive then you are using things you can not control to determine whether you are successful or not.  You cant choose to win and event, or get a job, or make a million dollars, etc.  However you CAN choose the path and the things you will do to get to as close as possible to achieving these goals.  If the goal is an athletic event, then your system is your training program.  You can decide the things you need to do and then go for it.  BUT, even there it should be process driven rather than goal driven.  Meaning if you dont hit a certain lift then you didnt fail.  But you gave it everything you had that day.  This is the exact same in EVERY other situation.  You need to spend your time and concern yourself with the process.  Think in detail about the steps you need take.  Put all your emphasis on the steps.  It goes back to the idea that its the journey rather than the destination.  Keep true to the path and dont get hung up on the end point and you will probably get there before you know it:)
