There is a phenomena called "creative counting" that happens very frequently in CrossFit boxes all over.  We all have been in a state of hypoxia (lack of O2) and havent been able to think straight and have missed some reps.  I know that sometimes my mind will wander in the middle of a high rep set and i will forget if i was on 49 or 59.  It happens.  Not a big deal.  BUT then there are times when the number gets cut ONLY so that one is able to do really well on the workout.  It will give us a great time, or a great score and then it get put up on the board for all to see.  As coaches we see this all the time.  We see the "lack of oxygen induced", the "i cant remember what number im on", and the "if i shave off a few here and there" people all the time.  But we rarely will call you on it.  Why not?  For a few reasons: 1) no one cares if you win the workout.  There isnt a gold medal at the end.  There is just the results you get from the workout.  2) If you cut reps off then you actually do less work and are losing the benefits of the workout.  So you are only hurting yourself.  3)  We want to push everyone in the room and make sure they are getting good coaching.  Sure we will tell you to go lower if you are shorting your squat or to lock your arms out but we are there to be your coach not your judge.  and 4) whats important about the workout is the response you get from it not the score you got.  Did you do the appropriate amount of weight in the appropriate amount of time? If so then thats what we want from you.  If not then you missed a great opportunity to improve.  So come in, leave your ego at the door, do your best, cheer on your other members, enjoy the sweat:) FEEL THE BURN!!!
