Competitions can do strange things to people.  Sure if its their first time, they may be nervous, they may be excited, they may be concerned with movements or weights, etc.  Usually what this mean is that they will practice the things they need to do over and over and over.  To this i will say one thing, if you have a couple weeks before the event, you dont need to do it any more than 2 or 3 times max.  The purpose for doing the workout before hand is to get a feel for the parts of the event.  Maybe there will be some areas where you should pace and others where you need to put your head down and do work.  But once you figure this out, then there really isnt any need to do it over and over.  Its not like math facts where you are trying to memorize it.  In fact for some, if the workout is a "painful" one, then they may actually get worse because they dont want to feel the pain and they mental drop out of the game.  Heres how you do it:  do a run through or two.  If you have a team you can maybe do it one more time since there will be more transitions that need to be worked out.  After that, sure you can do SOME of the movements but break it up differently.  Think about running a marathon or half.  You wont go and run a full marathon day after day after day because you are doing that event.  You will do intervals, set work, some base sets, a long run, some sprints, etc.  Think about this same thing for fitness events.  Plus you are all so used to different workouts everyday.  You will get bored REALLY fast doing the same stuff everyday.  Remember this is all for fun!!:) FEEL THE BURN!!!
