One of the best things that CrossFit has brought to the table is the change is what working out is supposed to be for.  A handful of years ago, the entire reason people would workout is for the aesthetics reasons.  Lose weight, a better body, bigger arms, better abs, etc.  The problem with an aesthetic goal is that it is totally subjective.  You can always lose weight or do curls for better arms but when are you happy with it?  This is how eating disorders happen.  The goal is more weight lost.  And if you lose the magic 10 pounds and you dont look better (too whoever), then there is a confidence dip.  Also since aesthetics is all based on what other people think, you end up doing your workout for "them".  Not you.  But CrossFit changed the goal.  It wasnt about the look, but rather it was about PERFORMANCE.  It was about increasing your work capacity in all areas or activity, in all time domains.  ITs more important about how fast your Fran is or how heavy your Overhead Squat is, or if you have Muscle Ups.  The more people could do, then better they felt about themselves.  Everyday names and score are put on the board so that you learn to become proud of what you were able to achieve that day.  This builds CONFIDENCE.  This confidence is what makes people feel good about themselves.  This has no bearing on what someone else thinks.  There is no subjectivity to it.  If you lift 95#, then you lifted 95#.  It is what it is and as you get better, the numbers go up.  Look at the people that do CrossFit.  They feel good about themselves and the thing they can do.  And the cool hidden thing, is that as the body is able to become a better and better performing machine, the body become a better and better looking machine.  The body is the by product of the performance.  You look like a badass because you are a badass. You arent all-show-and-no-go.  So dont fret about your abs, or fitbitting your calories.  Just go get your workout in and push that performance.:) FEEL THE BURN!!!
