Every part of every workout that we do at the Inferno is infinitely scalable and modifiable. Obviously we have this infinite number of changes available to us so that we can make the workout fit for every single person that comes to the gym. But this also allows us to use different skills of modification for the exact same person so that they are able to have greater improvement of a particular movement. What I mean is this, we preach full range of motion all the time. For some, full range of motion is not possible so the normal procedure of operation would be that we have that person move in “their” range of motion as long as the movement is safe and correct. For example, in the overhead squat we might have someone not go to full depth because once they pass a certain level the arms break forward, and the rest of the movement starts to break down. Our first option would be to reduce the weight so that they are able to hold the bar in a better position and allow for a better squat. For some people that might be the PVC pipe. But if I have them squat down to an inch or two about parallel, and they don’t break form in that deposition, then I can put some weight overhead with them. No it’s not full range of motion but it is increasing the midline stability since were holding more weight overhead, working on shoulder flexibility to make sure they can keep their arms locked in a position with weight, and hopefully squatting correctly with the butt going back first. Both options are extremely valid and have a place in the person’s training. So if you’re working out and you are always using the exact same scale or modification, ask your trainer for something new or different. Remember our goal is to constantly change in very the stimulus on your body. We want to do that exact same thing with your scales and modifications
