You have to remember to laugh at life.  There are so many things that can be so defeating or sad or just all-around downers.  But even when there are all of these bad things, there are plenty of things out there that can make you smile, if you let it.  It could be a sunrise or sunset, the giggle of a baby, watching your son or daughter perform or play a sport, a favorite song, a good movie or tv show, a funny you tube clip, etc etc.  But heres the thing.... you have to be open to smile or laugh at it.  its easy to bury your head in the crap out there.  Or maybe its not that you are buried in it but you just let yourself get completely wrapped up by it.  Im not saying that you need to ignore the bad things out there and take this fake view of the world.  But i am saying that you are allowed to take a break, even if its every hour, or even every 15 minutes, to smile at something, or laugh at something.  This puts YOU in control of your world, not the world around you.  You cant control the world around you, but you can control you.  Try it, even set an alarm if you need to, and see if you can honestly smile or laugh every 15 minutes.  See what it does to you:)
