Is chivalry dead?  I like to think it isn't.  Or maybe I like to be chivalrous because it makes me feel good.  What does it mean to be chivalrous?  In basic terms, it means to be generous, kind and courteous.  For example, a chivalrous thing to do when I leave StarBucks is to hold the door open for someone that wants to come in.  I'm all for doing this.  In fact, I'll purposely look back and see if anyone is behind me coming out so I can hold the door open for them.  HOWEVER.....the part that kills me is when I do something like this and the person I'm holding the door for doesn't say thank you!  Ok, yes I honestly do these random acts of kindness for the intrinsic benefits.  It makes me feel good!  Plus I'm doing what I was taught to me as the right thing to do.  But if you ask if chivalry is dead?  My answer would be no.  What is dead...or dying, is gratitude.  I'm not saying people arent thankful for those big things in their lives, but if someone does something for you, you are SUPPOSED to say thank you!  The part that really kills me is I see this, more than I'd like, with women.  No I'm not saying all women do this, thank goodness.  But when people say, usually women, that chivalry is dead, maybe it's been smashed out of society.  We have all been taken advantage of or had bad things happen to us when we have trusted people so we have become callous.  There are still good people out there.  You are probably one of those good people!  If that's the case, then lets see if we can bring it back.   Look for those chances to give those little acts of kindness and chivalry.  If it comes your way then be gracious and thankful. See how it makes you feel! :)
