Cliques....you hear about them all the time.  And they seem to really come up in CrossFit boxes.  I'm not really sure why people make a big idea about it though.  Heres the thing, it doesn't matter if it was when you were in the 2nd grade, or junior high, high school, your sorority, your team, your work, etc, you will always gravitate towards people that either are doing what you do, or want to do, the way you do or how you want to do it.  This is NOT a bad thing.  The bigger the group, the more "cliques" there will be.  Now, I will say most of the time the word is used in a negative connotation.  It's an exclusionary title.  A clique is a group that doesn't allow others in.  It's unfriendly, it's unwelcoming, its bad.  I dont feel that EVERY grou is this way.  If you are in a group that is unfriendly, unwelcoming, or bad, then Id suggest changing your attitude on the others around you because you wil eventually be excluded from the ENTIRE group.  However, if you are in a group and you are friends, then cool!  Enjoy your group!  You of course will have your own jokes, your own stories, etc but that doesnt mean you that you act like you are the only ones around.  Dont be afraid to say hi, to say good job, to say whats up!  Its called being a firendly person in a box that is supposed to be a safe place for ALL the members not just a few.  You dont need to be best friends with everyone but at least while you are in the gym, you WILL be friendly to everyone.  Old members, new members, drop ins, and alike.  Whatever group you are in, you are ALL part of one big group!!  :)
