Why do people do this so much? I see them get all kinds of PR’s but they refuse to be fired up about it because one other weight or movement isn’t going up. “ Hey Bill! I PR'ed my back squat, my clean and jerk, my max unbroken pull-ups, and my muscle ups. But I’m so pissed that I haven’t hit “ insert weight here”  on my snatch! It’s just totally getting in my head and I’m getting so frustrated. I think I might need to pick a new program to fix this!”   Come on already! Once you have been doing this for a while you will see that PR’s do not happen on a daily basis. They start to become few and far between. So if, for some reason, you’re able to PR some of your lifts and movements but you aren’t getting a PR in another particular movement, it doesn’t mean that things are going bad. It doesn’t work that every single lift improves at the same rate and at the same time. You will have natural tendencies towards constant improvement on certain things and other things will just naturally take longer.  But besides all of the movement and strength work to improve on, one of the most powerful and biggest things that must always be worked to improve is the brain. In my time, I’ve seen so many people that have far less ability but are so strong in the head that they can crush athletes that have all the ability of the world but are just mentally weak. This mental toughness must be practiced just as much as every other lifted movement you're doing. The simplest way of doing that is keeping yourself in a positive mindset whether the weights are going up or whether you are struggling. Find the silver lining, keep yourself in a good headspace and enjoy what you are doing. Practice makes perfect:)
