Failure is not an option.  This phrase is said quite a bit but the reality is that failure is a given.  Ithappens all the time and it happens at all levels from very minute, doesnt matter if it was a failure or not. to the world is coming crashing down failures.  But there is a stigma with failure.  It says we are a bad person, or we arent good enough, etc.  You all know me pretty well and you know that i am NOT for the participation award.  There will always ber a winner and a loser.  But when losing happens, or failure happens, there MUST be an assessment period that goes over what happened.  Was it the actual performance that casued the failure or was it the prep for the performance?  Was the proper map laid out for you to follow?  Maybe the steps in your prep werent correct.  There can be a million different reasons but the only way it will be able to fixed so that you can improve is that they need to be figured out.  All the energy you use to feel bad or sad, or bummed out, or wishing that it went the other way, or worrying about how many more years you will have to work, or if you be able to put the time in for next year, or whatever the reason, sit down and examine the failure.  Be as unbiased as you can so that you aren't using emotion to decode it.  Be logical.  Be honest.  Be as real as possible and the construct the new plan.  This sounds like a ton of work, and for some things, it can be.  But you need to practice the skills.  The more you do it, the easier it will be.  The other thing to remember is that, especially for those big goals and plans, there are MANY steps involved so you can do the assessment early and many times instead of waiting all the way until the big fail.  Have the situational aware=ness to know that the plan isn't working and assess it.  If you still think its the best plan then continue forward and if you need to adjust the plan for more time or whatever then do it.  It needs to NOT be that "failure is not an option", but rather "CONSTANT ASSESSMENT is MANDATORY"!  Make it so! :)
