Confidence and cockiness are very misunderstood ideas.  Cockiness, or being cocky, is the act of being errogant, thinking you are above all others, being BRASHLY self confident.  This is an outward act of one person to show others around then that they "think" they are great.  Confidence is an internal feeling of self confidence.  Not feeling thatyou are the best, but knowing that you will be able to give your BEST performance.  This has NOTHING to do with others around you.  It doesnt matter what others think about you, it doesnt matter what you hope people say about you, it doesnt matter if you win or lose the event.  It ONLY matters that you believe in your ability to do the best YOU can do.  I saw a great quote from Ben Bergeron about Matt Fraser.  Matt is the fittest man in the world yet he only won one event while at the Games.  So, how can he be so confident?  He was confident that he would give his best performance and that the other stuff will shuffle out the way they will. How cool is that??  You are now "allowed" to be totally confident in yourself regardless of how you finish.  You only need to do one thing, perform.  When thats the goal, the outcome is NOT the score or if you won or lost.  The goal is to do the best you could have done.  So let your insides bubble over with self confidence.  Believe in yourself and the things you can do. :)
