I actually love the discussion about whether or not CrossFit is safe or not.  Part of the discussion was whether a grand parent should do it because its too high impact.  My points were 1) that resistance training is hugely important because it will help their bones (obviously not trying to crush them and making sure that proper and safe movement is developed first), 2) as long as modifications are happening and are adequit fo the individual there is a ton they can do, and finally 3) what is the fear with most older people, or their care givers: them falling down and not being able to get back up!  A burpee is moving a body from standing, to laying on the ground to getting back up again.  Wouldnt that be beneficial for an elderly person?  i think it would be!  Now again this is NOT saying that you get an elderly person and put them into a 10min EMOM of 10 burpees every minute on the minute!  It means you learn the movement, figure out how to move and the best ways for you to move to build the proper movements, then you master the movement but do more and more perfect reps so that you wont crumble under simple fatigue, and then you increase the intensity with the speed and variation.  HMMMMMMsound familiar?  We do the EXACT same thing with all our members.  Sure we will take a little more care of our older members since they arent as resilient as the kids we have but the formulas is the same.  So moral of the story...yes Crossfit is safe and EVERYONE should do it! :)
