Travelling is fun but depending what you do it for, it can be draining.  There are so many things you have to acclimate yourself to and if you don't then you aren't able to run at the levels you might want to run at.  If you are a competitor, you have to deal with time zone changes, jet lag, eating schedules being off, different foods, not having your Whole Foods and the regular things you get, sleeping arrangements are different.  If you are doing regular work and traveling then you have the same stuff plus you usually don't go early or stay late after the event because you are there for the job.  This means that you start out of the gates with little sleep, usually don't eat your normal breakfast or meals, or you have to decide if you want the mega expensive box sandwich on the plane.  So what is the point to all this?  Well, it has to do with flexibility.  As athletes, or honestly just adults, we get very routine in our worlds.  It helps us to be as efficient as possible in this crazy world, but it can also become a trap.  Not just because it may disrupt our flow of the day but because you can lose your situational awareness.  When you are in your "rut", your head is down and you just plug away as always. But if you dont pick your head up, or if you arent aware of the things around you then you will be knocked off your stride and be back-peddling trying to regain your position.  The easiest way to be be flexibile and ready to respond is to regularly pick your head up and look around.  give yourself the chance to see whats around you.  and to see what you might nieed befoe:)
