When chaos happens, your body will go into a Fight or Flight response.  We have all heard about this in high school science classes but we will be dealing with this a little bit differently here.  When chaos happens, you will usually react either one of two ways:  you will react or you will freeze.  Yesterday, I was outside my house and I noticed a dog across the street that I usually just hear barking.  And usually quite a bit.  Then I started seeing the dogs head popping up over the wall of the backyard.  I never really thought much about it.  But yesterday, I saw the dogs head and heard her barking.  Then al of a sudden she jumped up on the wall and was looking very anxious.  I saw that she still had a leash around her neck.  Instantly, I got that "spidey sense" feeling that something bad was going to happen.  She jumped off the wall which was about a 6-foot drop.  The leash was too short and she instantly was hanging herself!  Without even thinking, I sprinted across the street and climbed up the lower part of the wall which was also 6 feet (so from the ground to the top of where she jumped was 12').  As I climbed, I could hear her struggling to breathe, but I think she was in shock because she wasn't scrambling at all to get out.  Just hanging there.  I grabbed the dog and held her up and tried to let her relax and catch her breath.  She was shaking but was slowly relaxing.  I was able to get her back up on the wall and then hopped her down onto the big plastic kennel that she used to get on the wall.  She tried to get back on the wall again.  I didn't let her though.  I hopped into the back yard and called out to see if they owners were home but the dog was there alone.  I then decided to move all the "items" away from the wall so that she couldn't make another attempt at jumping over again.  Later, I saw the owners and explained what happened.  I told them I didn't want them to think someone broke into their house by how I moved things around in the back yard.  Needless to say, they were very happy that I was there to help.  I couldn't imagine what it would be like to come home to what could have happened.  Anyways this isn't about my story and the dog, but it's about responding when you need to.  When chaos happens, and you respond, I truly believe that we are wired to survive and to save.  Things will seem to happen in slow motion but you feel like you are moving at super speed.  These reactions will not be laced with fear or what "might happen" because you don't have time.  You are just doing.  You are in the FLOW state.  There isn't fear of failure, or what others might think.  It's just action and the actions are right.  If you ever get in this situation, let your body do what it does. It will take care of you and the situation:)
