You lost.  You got beat.  You failed.  You got your ass kicked.  Obviously, this sucks and it's a HUGE negative in your life.  Now what?  Is this the end?  We have talked in the past about how failures are some of the BEST learning opportunities ever.  This is very true.  But there is something that failure or loss can also do for you.  they can be your driving force.  Quoting Thulsa Doom (played by James Earl Jones) to Conan in the movie "Conan: the Barbarian", "I am the wellspring from which you flow."  In the movie, Thulsa Doom killed Conan's parents when he was a child and was taken as a slave.  He grew up with the dream to be so powerful that he could avenge his parents and kill Thulsa.  It drove Conan to push himself more than anyone could imagine.  To deal with more pain than anyone could handle, so that when he had his chance to kill Thulsa, nothing would stop him.  Ok, I know this is slightly over the top for normal everyday failures, but the drive doesn't need to be any different.  Before I started the fire service, I had a mentor Captain tell me that I was too old to start my career.  That I'd never make it.  I was pissed.  So pissed.  How dare he tell me that I CANT do it!!  This energy was channeled and so focused that I was able to get my full-time job. I advanced quickly. I ended up taking over the programs that he lead.  I became the Captain that trained everyone, pushed everyone, and that everyone wanted to be with on an incident.  My drive wasn't out of revenge or anything like that.  But it was driven by what was important to me.  I was able to use this as my source of power.  I like to do this with other things as well.  Ever get a letter telling you failed?  Something you see as a "rock bottom"?  Post it up so you can actually see it every day.  Use this as your power.  Turn it from a negative to the most bright positive you can!  Make it be the "wellspring from which you flow!" :)
