How many times have you heard the statement "you have to love the journey"?  The basic premise is that you have to enjoy what you are doing.  This is important because no matter what you are doing; training, practicing, participating, learning, teaching, parenting, etc, there will be times that you are tested.  Not tested as in a test to win something but more a test of resiliency.  You will run into bumps in the road that are there to see if you can stay true to the course.  Will you waver?  Will you decide to quit?  Will you break down and cry and give up?  Or will you stay in the mix and fight?  I think most of us have a pretty good understanding of this. But what many forget is that the "journey" isn't some short time frame.  There will be segments that are short but this isn't usually the timeframe we are talking about.  It's usually more of the "career" time of the activity.  For instance, I have been in the sport of CrossFit for 9 years.  I haven't won the CrossFit Games.  I never made it to the Games as an Open Individual.  Each year I would have my planned set up of how I was going to make it there or to win.  I have fallen short.  Every year.  Sure it would be very easy to get bummed out about it or come up with some reason why it didn't work in my favor but whats the point of that?  So why haven't I stopped?  Because I love it.  I love the training.  I love the pushing.  I love chasing the dream.  I believe that it keeps me young at heart.  Maybe because this is what I did when I was younger and it brings me back to that.  Maybe its because the fight keeps you alive.  Even in the movie "Fight Club" they talked about how the fight (or being socked in the face) made other things in your daily life seem insignificant.  The fight, the struggle.  It's real.  It's life.  So here I am after years and years and years of training, pushing, competing.  I love it.  It's my journey.  I love every bit of it!!  (but of course, i still want to win lol) Do you love your journey? :)
