We can very easily talk about how bad the nutritional value of food nowadays is.  We can talk about how there are governmental set ups to make us sick so that we become dependent on medications. There are so many things that stop us from healing, recovering and improving.  But the one thing that is more damaging than we will ever truly grasp is how stress destroys our bodies.  Even though there isn't truly and action happening to us, our bodies will respond as if there was.  There can be a physical response even for single thoughts that run though your head.  Again these are only thoughts but they change your body from dealing with healing, recovering or being ready, to managing the stress, prepping the neurons to fight or to flee, and getting you ready for battle.  Obviously if you really have to fight or run for your life, then this is a great thing.  The down side is that we put our system into this "mode" daily.  There is a hormone called Cortisol, that deals with the fight or flight responses.  But the downside of to too much cortisol are things that we DON'T want.  Things like impaired healing and cell regeneration, disrupted digestion, mental functions and metabolism, weakened immune system, loss of muscle and bone, mood swings, depression, thyroid imbalances, low sex drive, sleeplessness, and weight gain (especially around the belly).  All of these are terrible but it's TOTALLY under our control.  We can choose how much stress we have by deciding how we deal with things.  If you look at everything as half empty, if you look at the negative side of everything, then you will be filled with stress because you will be battling things constantly.....even things that you can't control.  Its all a matter of how you "roll with it."  Save the fighting and the battling for when you really need it.  Save the energy for the things that REALLY demand your energy.  And then let your body heal so you can really attack when you need to!  Stress Free is the key! :)
