Have you ever felt sorry for yourself?  Of course, we all have.  Why do we do it?  I don't think anyone would say that it's a good thing to feel sorry for yourself.  Maybe some would say that they feel sorry for themselves because nobody will.  Possibly.  But it does make you feel better....in an odd way.  Think about it for a second.  When you get to show others how you are coping with a much more difficult life or situation than them, or how you are "forced" to have a life that you don't want, your brain will twist the logic so that you aren't really facing the truths or your role in the situations.  This makes us feel better because "we are obviously a better person than everyone else" and we want to feel better.  But doing this keeps you from really being able to analyze, grow or change from the situation.  The only way you can truly fix the situation you are in is to look at it objectively and come up with logical steps to get to a new place.  When we put our emphasis on this rather than the other, then we are able to really make those advances towards bettering ourselves and our situations.  It's acknowledging where we are and then deciding what to do.  Here is where our life will transform.:)
