The holidays are upon us and even though most would think that it's a time for family and friends and joyous occasions (which I hope it is!), it's also the most stressful time of the year. With so many expectations of making sure the holidays are great for the kids, wondering if you have enough money for things, whose house are you going to go to, who is coming to your house, will they be happy with the things they get, will you be happy with the thing you get or don't get, and its freezing, etc etc etc. These extra HEAVY thoughts, worries, and concerns can get MASSIVE and heavy on you. This stress added to the normal everyday stress is enough to push some over the edge. On a health and fitness level, I'll say this, yes nutrition is important, yes mobility is important, yes training is important, but if you can't control the level of stress in your world, then you will be affected in a way you won't even be ready for. Stress is everywhere and is something we deal with daily. When we take on more stress than we can handle, or our "cup" overflows, then our body will have a negative reaction. Could be sickness, could be stomach issues, could be heart issues, could be eye issues, it could be head issues or others. You don't get to pick what happens. It just happens. You can't choose the things you have to deal with but you can choose HOW you choose to deal with them. You can choose to react or get overly pissed off or angry at everything. You can choose how you react when someone says something to you. You can choose how to react when you get that big unexpected bill in the mail, etc. They are all still there but you can choose how you want to treat your responses. One of the best ways to try to get your head back to a neutral spot in the midst of all the chaos would be to give yourself a moment of silence. It might be meditation, it might be sitting quietly watching the sunrise with your cup of coffee, it might be yoga. The time doesn't have to be long. I do 10 minutes every day and honestly, it has become one of my favorite 10 minutes of the day. I use this to relax my thoughts, calm my head and breath to relax my nervous system. It's amazing how well it works. You need to find your thing. The sooner you do the better you will be!! :)
