We are coming to the end of the holiday season with the final step approaching. This last one is the Coupe de Grâce of new starts: New Year's. Many will wait until this day to start something new. There will be high expectations of success for some very high goals. And although I am a fan of high goals, many will say that they are discouraging because they are so unattainable. To me "easily attainable" goals aren't goals. I don't want to aspire to do something simple. I want to aspire to do something great! I will agree that great things have many very steps, and many are simple, easily attainable tasks that need to be completed along the way. These would be more like way-points on the way to my goal. They keep me going in the right direction. But the hard thing about this "new start" season is that most people make it about 8-15 days then quit. The normal routine is that the first 1-5 days are ok because you are running on the excitement of what you are wanting to accomplish. After that, the work starts to set in. There will be "speed wobbles" all over the place but the plan should be to make whatever it is you are doing a routine as possible. Stay on that routine no matter what for the first 3 weeks minimum. Usually, by this time, it will become your normal daily thing. However, it wouldn't take much to derail yourself right off the routine. You cant get sloppy with it. Stay on track. It should be MUCH easier to do so now. So knowing that, understanding that it will take work, that there will be ups and downs, that there will be many steps, pick something big! GO big!! Goal Big!!!! :)
