There is something the SEAL Teams do that is pretty impressive. They learn that if you tend to your weakest, or faltering, teammate, that you actually forget about how bad you are hurting for a moment of time. Are you still working? Yes, Did the work disappear? No. But do you feel better? Of course. This is a perfect way to think at all times whether you are a SEAL or not. Think about when you are working out. You are aching, your lungs are on fire, you feel dizzy and you just don't want to continue. You look up and see someone else is feeling the same way or resting longer than they should. If you speak up to them to encourage them to keep going or that they are ok, then for that moment you aren't feeling your own pain. It actually gives you a chance to recover from the workout. Sure you may not be doing as much work as if you were full-blown into it, but if you are thinking about how bad it hurts, you aren't doing any work. In real life, if you are struggling with your stuff, but you are able to give someone some help, either cheering them on or helping them somehow, then it takes you away from your own struggles for a moment. It allows your brain to relax a bit. But more importantly, you get the intrinsic benefits of feeling good when you do it. Now you are able to get back to your own stuff with a renewed state of mind. Even if its a slight improvement, that is ALWAYS better than less of an improvement. So when you get the chance, give a helping hand, a word of encouragement, some assistance. It will make you feel better, let you recover and relax and be allow you to get you back to your stuff ready to attack. It's worth it!! :)
