Did you use to be a "someone"? Do you remember that time when you were really good, really strong, really fast, on top of your game, etc? Damn, it felt good to be good huh! Of course, it did! But now.....you are older, you aren't the new guy with energy, there are others that are stronger or better, or you had an injury, or haven't been as consistent in the gym, or financial issues have hindered you. The normal mindset is "why the hell am I not like I was?!?!?" or "I should be {insert whatever here}!!!" When you have these thoughts of comparing yourself to what you USED to be or what you thought you used to be, instead of dealing with where you are right now, you will get you into all kinds of trouble and frustration. Think about that time where you had a great workout streak. You were strong. You felt like you had a crazy engine. You could handle ANY workout that was thrown at you. But then a couple years later, school, family, job, life gets in the way and you AREN'T where you were. You come in and do workouts and get crushed. The frustration sets in. You think you suck. "What's the use. I should just not even go to the gym I'm so bad." Does this sound familiar at all?? Well, you need to put a stop to this noise as QUICK as possible!! How can you be performing in the same way as when you were in the gym all the time? You can't. If you are coming back from an injury, you NEED to give yourself workout amnesia: FORGET where you once were. Concentrate on where you are at this moment. In either situation, when you concentrate on where you are, then you can put the most into it and get the most out of it. If you are constantly looking back to the past then it's like running with a parachute, it just slows down the progress. Stay right here, in the NOW. Put your energies into what's happening and where you are right now. This doesn't mean you won't get back to where you were. You might even be able to surpass it. But that will unfold in the future. Let it do its thing. But right now you need to do YOUR thing. Make the most of your RIGHT NOW, RIGHT NOW!!!:)
