In most competitions, there are multiple parts to it.  Maybe its periods, or rounds, or different events that all add up to the final score.  And with these multiple parts, it takes an amount of patience to get to the end.  I'm not talking about patience where you sit and wait for something.  I'm talking about not letting yourself get too into the first step of the event.  Sure there is momentum if you can get ahead but it's not over until the end.  I remember when I was wrestling that it was so important not to let it get in my head if I was taken down.  Sure I'd be behind by a couple points but it just meant I would have to make those up and be strategic how I do it.  I'd use that to ramp up my fight and I'd get hungrier for points.  And what about the New England Patriots, we have seen  (at least last year) how they can come back from a big deficit to win the Super Bowl in the end.  I do know that sometimes when someone, or a team, gets ahead, there can be a feeling of "we already won" and then they lose the focus they had.  In sports, things like this happen all the time.  Lets put this to the Open, we have 5 events we have to compete in.  This means there are 5 opportunities to score points.  The first one is ALWAYS funny because if you happen to be good at the events, then it's like "oh wow who is THAT person???" or "well there's [X] still at the top".  But because there aren't any other scores to add to it yet, it skews whats really happening in the competition.  We still have 4 more events to get scores from.  Basically what I'm saying here is if you got a good score, congrats but don't get comfortable there.  Keep the focus.  If you didn't get a good score then use this be like the hungry wolf fighting and scratching for all the opportunities you can and get back up there.  Don't get distracted by others, what they do, what they get, or what they are doing.  Just put your head down and do work.  Have patience and have tenacity.  Congrats on the first one and good luck on event 2!! :)
