It's really tough around this time to not look at the leaderboard.  It really doesn't matter if you are a contender or just someone that wants to be/do better.  Its natural to use the people on the board or people in your gym as a measuring stick.  This can be a good thing at times if it brings you up to new levels you can't attain by yourself.  But there is a drastic downside.  If you get mind-fucked because someone got a better score than you, or because you aren't in the "right spot" on the leaderboard, then there is BIG chance that it can completely throw you from your whole game.  Now I'm not saying you can't put energy into thinking about the event or the workout.  But you have to stick all that energy into YOU.  You have to worry about YOUR strategy for the workout, not everyone else's. You have to worry about YOUR results, not anyone else's.  You have to concentrate on the things YOU need to do to get ready, not wait for all the zillions out there than have to do it at this time or that time.  There is NOTHING wrong with being a little selfish and setting it up best for you.  This doesn't mean that you have to make a whole class wait for you to have the wind blowing a particular direction, etc, but you need to make sure you are ready to do YOUR thing.  If you are going to only concentrate on yourself, then give yourself the best chance you can.  Prepare your way.  Do your routine.  And then do YOUR thing.  Don't worry about anyone or anything else because it really doesn't matter.  You are the only one that matters! :)
