There are times in your life when things get very tough. There will be things you have to do that you really don't want to do. Usually when there are these "must do things" (work, homework, studying, etc) we seem to be able to get ourselves to do whatever it is. Even if its something we don't want to do. But what about when its not something "overly"important. Let's say a competition event. You aren't going to lose your job or fail out of school if you don't do well in a competition. Even a workout in the gym. If you decide not to do it, the world still spins around like nothing happened. In these situations it all comes down to you. Do you WANT IT or not. This is when that voice pops up into your head and tells you, you might as well just stop. I won't lie, when I did Murph the other day, I was smack in the middle of this problem. I just got off the plane, I hadn't done anything over the weekend when I was commentating for the Regionals. I was tired. I was hungry but I wanted to do this. So, I got into it. The first mile was fine. The pull-ups were ok then the push-ups came. They sucked. I ok until about 120. After that, I was not wanting to play anymore. I mustered my way through it. Then the air squats. My legs weren't happy. I started feeling aches and pains in my legs. Not because anything was injured but because when you don't really want to do it, you start to either feel everything OR you make them up in your head. I was hearing the voice telling me to stop. I started to get into an argument with myself. "Just shut up and finish. you are almost done!!!" Then the final mile. Lets just say that was a debate with the VOICE the entire time. JUST TURN AROUND. SHUT UP YOUR'E ALMOST DONE. NO ONE IS WATCHING. SHUT THE HELL UP! FINE I'LL JUST WALK. WELL IF YOU DO THAT THEN MIGHT AS WELL TURN BACK. SHUT UP!! This was me for most of the entire mile. The thing is that this happens with EVERYONE. But it's up to the individual what they want to do with it. There will be a million opportunities for you to stop. But you have to decide if its important to you or not, for whatever reason, to keep going. If it's important then teach yourself to shut that voice up. The better you get at it, the more you will be able to stop that voice in its tracks. It will always be there and pop its head up in all kinds of situations. Be able to smash it down and shut it up:)
