Today is Technique Thursday and we will be doing a technique workout that works on your grip.  The grip is a very important link in the movement chain when you are working out or when you are just doing your functional movements out in the real world.  But how do you really improve it, make it stronger?  It used to be that you would grab those spring loaded squeezer tools.  But will that really build the "correct" grip strength?  In what we do, you need to have staying power while you HANG onto the bar.  It could be hanging on a pull-up bar, it could be during toes to bar, it could be cleans, it could be muscle ups, it could be holding dumbbells on box step overs, etc. Or it could be using an axe, climbing a rope or pulling someone up.  All of these things need grip strength.  Most of them are of an isometric tension.  Meaning, when you squeeze, your hand, your hand doesn't move.  It just locks down on the object. The old spring tool would actually move so its not the same exact thing.  Does it make you stronger?  Yeah but I don't think it will transfer over as well as the movements in the EMOM will today.  If you feel that your grip might be the weak point of your movements, then put something like this into your normal routine.  Popeye strong grip is just around the corner!! :)
