When I think of an old man, I envision some white-haired guy on the porch or sitting on his couch and getting just pissed at all the damn kids in the neighborhood making all kinds of noise. Or of their "crazy music" on the radio. "Back in my day....." You know how it goes lol. But since I have been really talking about the benefits of stress management, I have seen so many places where I would have blown up in the past. There are so many people that say and do dumb things. But other than making myself blurt out some "you're a bonehead" comment, I try to blow it/them off. I mean what do I gain out by saying anything? Nothing. I would just try to keep my mouth closed. This is the very first step in regulating the amount of stress I add to my life. The next step would be to not even think in my head what I want to say out loud. Really let it go. Basically, I would have to recognize it, and immediately not care about the "bonehead". This is not easy. I have been able to get better at this though. The weird thing about this is that you start to wonder if you are a pushover. Are you showing a sign of weakness by not "letting them know how stupid they are"? The answer I keep coming back to is NO. What I'm doing is saving my precious energy for the people that deserve to have my energy. I will save it for them and the benefit of it is that it reduces my stress and that helps me to sleep better, recover better, live longer, have less illness, and I could go on. I'd rather have that than tell someone what they are doing is dumb.....unless it affects me then that's another story for another day;)
