Music is something that is VERY special to people.  I know that music can bring flashbacks of memories from over 20 years ago.  It can make you happy.  It can make you sad.  And for most, there is music they like and music they can't stand.  I remember when I was younger (like when the Walkman first came out), I used to turn my headphones up so loud so that when I was training (running or cycling), I literally could not hear my breathing.  The idea behind this "technique" was that it was "ignorance is bliss".  If I couldn't hear myself GASPING for air, then I didn't think I was gasping and I could keep going.  Now there will be those that say that you should train without music so that you can get 100% in tune with your body and how it's performing during the training or competition.  I do agree with the fact that since you don't get compete with YOUR music blasting in your ears, its good to train without it at times, or at least quieter, just so you are able to function in that scenario.  But for most, music is a piece that makes their workout time something enjoyable.  I agree with this also. And being older, there is a TON of good music that i can pull from to enjoy my work out.  I love hearing some good music when I'm working out.  BUT......since music is 100% an individual taste, if you are in a class workout setting, you will probably have to work out with music that is playing that isn't your favorite.  There is NO POSSIBLE way to play anything that each person in class likes.  And just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be changed.  When I see people get all fired up on music saying they can't work out while it's playing what I honestly see is a complete disconnect from what the WORKOUT is supposed to do.  To gain the benefits from the workout, you need to move hard and fast.  The music is simply a piece of all the things going on in the workout time.  It DOES NOT make or break your workout.  I mean even I can work out to country music and I CAN NOT STAND country music.  But it won't change my workout.  Mostly because when the 3-2-1-GO hits, then I'm in work mode.  I can listen to music ALL DAY long.  I won't let 15 mins of music ruin my workout.  And you shouldn't either.  So ease up on the complaints.  There has been so many that they are starting to fall on deaf ears hahah!  But of course, you can wear your headphones if you really need to.  ;)
