We are what we repeatedly do.  This is a very popular phrase and fits us great because we are complete creatures of habit.  Not because we are lazy as a species, but rather because we are masters of efficiency.  Depending on what activities we do, our bodies will actually morph and change so that we can become the most efficient version of ourselves for that activity.  Take a look at the athletes at the Olympics.  If you look at the athletes from each sport, they all have a very similar body style and shape.  This is due to years of training and these bodies have the "best" shape for their task.  And as much as our bodies change to fit our activities, it also happens with our feelings and thoughts.  Take ideas like Integrity, Dedication, Fortitude, and Grit.  For most people, they have to work to develop these traits.  It takes time to develop the ability to keep going when things get tough, to not try to cheat your way through something, to lie to yourself or others to make yourself look or feel better, to get back up when you get knocked down, to believe and have confidence in your abilities, to be able to embrace discomfort and move forward.  An easy place to learn this is in the gym.  We make it so you are very uncomfortable.  You are then given an opportunity to be able to develop not just physical benefits but mental toughness and the list of ideas above.  The more you put yourself in these positions and do those things (the right things to put it simply), then this becomes your normal routine and your default action.  If you lie, cheat, quit, or feel sorry for yourself then it will be easier to do next time.  If you do it again then it will be even easier after that.  But if you continually push yourself, do the right thing, to keep fighting when you feel like quitting, to keep getting up everytime you are knocked down, to pick up the bar when you really don't want to, then this will become easier and easier to do.  And once it becomes your normal then the amounts of things you can accomplish will be sky high!  Just imagine if nothing can stop you from moving forward, no matter how hard, how difficult, or how painful!  Make the switch, and do it one day at a time!! :)
