Gratitude is something that is blogged about, posted about, Instagrammed about, and generally talked about all the time.  There are gratitude journals, gratitude sites, etc.  Yes, it's VERY easy to talk about all the things you are thankful for when things are great.  Your relationship, your family, your job, your workouts, your projects, your trips, your finances, when these things are working and you are in a great mood, then, OF COURSE, you are thankful.  But this is NOT when you need to show gratitude.  "Gratitude" works best when all those things I just listed are crumbling to the ground.  When you feel like the world is literally falling apart at the seems and it feels like there is no way you can get out of the pit, this is the time to be thankful and show gratitude.  Why?  Because it's at these times where we can get completely lost in depression, despair, and sadness or anxiety.  If we can be thankful and show gratitude during these times, then we can help to block out all the badness by filling our hearts and minds with goodness by realizing that we do have good things in our life. That we aren't as bad off as we thought or feel we are, and it shows us that there is still good in the world.  The other awesome thing about Gratitude is that the very core of it is to focus on others.  We thank others for things they do, we see the good things they do, we appreciate their actions or just them. This takes us away from the pains in our own world and refocuses our thoughts to happy things instead of crap.  We already know that happiness makes everything in our world way better.  Gratitude has a direct correlation to happiness.  And I have seen studies that show that a 10% increase in happiness is equal to double your income (of which I wouldn't mind both of those hahaha!)!  So when things get really bad, don't wish for this or that.  Instead of thinking what is bad and what you don't have, change it to THANK YOU for what you DO have and what IS good in your world.  And mean it!  Be thankful for those things and tell the people around you thank you for the things they do for you, or even just what they do!  It WILL make your life better!! :)
