We all know what Carpe Diem is.  Seize the Day!  The usual explanation of this is to imagine that you will die tomorrow and then think about how you would live your life differently.  All the things you might not do or feel like you need to wait for, you would do.  You would throw caution to the wind and GO FOR IT, on everything.  It's really not a very realistic scenario, even though we don't know how long we will be around.  I mean its possible we might not be here tomorrow (ok sorry for the dark visual).  But let's say this instead, "Next year I'm going to do ...[FILL IN THE BLANK]".  I was talking to Games Athlete Nick Urankar at the Crossfit Games. I have known him for about 8 years.  I have seen him compete on the Regional floor and I have commentated his performances since 2011.  He has tried to make the Games 9 years.  He has made it 3 times.  And while we were at the After Party this year we talked about the last time I was at an After Party with him and it was at the final Games in Carson, 2016.  We were talking then about how bummed he was that he didn't qualify.  How there were guys that were there that would come up to him and say "next year I'm going to do... this or that" and he got teary-eyed telling me that he told them "there is no next year!"  Just because you did something one time doesn't mean it will EVER happen again.  He told me the same thing happened this year.  Some of the young guys told him that next year they would be doing this or that.  And this was DURING the competition!  They were already looking past it.  And he, being 34 years old and feeling old comparatively to them told them, VERY EMPHATICALLY, that they are missing it.  That they need to be wholeheartedly on the floor........when they are on the floor.  Not to look past it because it might NEVER come around again.  There really isn't a NEXT YEAR.  Because who knows what will happen.  No one does and you change one little variable in your life and you could be in an entirely different situation and not ever get the chance again.  You need to enjoy and live the moments you are in.  Don't look past them.  Soak them up.  Not because you might die tomorrow, but because you will miss the beauty of what is happening right now hoping for something later  :)
