We all want to look good. As much as we tell ourselves it's not important or we hate what magazines and the media have said we are supposed to look like, that is what we try to achieve. The greatest thing about Crossfit and I mean I think its better than all the chronic illness improvement etc, if you go to an even broader view, CrossFit the fitness program has turned working out from being an athletic based goal to a performance-based goal. So many are out there counting macros and trying to burn calories, NOT so that they are in better health and will be able to do more things better and for longer in their life, but they do it because they will LOOK better. And I will say this if that is your goal then good! If you just want to look good then cool! BUT how long do you think you will be able to keep eating the way you eat? The way diets work is that they are designed to have an endpoint. You have to work to get to the "show weight". Think about all those fitness models, sure they are all shredded up when they are on stage but they work to get to that point. And it's NOT to stay in that position. It's for a finite amount of time. This is NOT health. NOw if you chase performance, and I don't mean training for a competition performance. I mean being able to perform life better and longer, then everything you do is to make you better and sustainable for longer. You won't have a caloric deficit so you can see your abs just to be able to see them. You won't crush yourself with hours and hours of workouts just so that you can work out better. You will eat to live, you will train to live, you will sleep to live, you will laugh to live, you will recover to live, you will explore to live and you will LIVE to LIVE. I don't care what you look like. I'll never go up to someone and ask them how they look they way they look. But I will ask them what they can do, how long they have been doing it, and how long they will be able to do it for. Performance will always trump looks. And besides, if the machine is able to perform and be more functional for longer, would you HAVE to be healthy, wouldn't you HAVE to be is a state of wellness, wouldn't you HAVE to be fueled so that you can do anything and everything you need to? Yes, yes you would:)
