It's important to be proud of yourself and what you do. One of the things we do at the gym is to write your name and your score on the board each and every day. This isn't to embarrass anyone. It isn't to show the world that this person is "better" than this other person. The main reason we do it is that it forces you to be proud of the work and the job you did when you were pushing hard. Will every day be your best competitive day? Of course not. But you can still push hard, relative to yourself. At the end of the workout, while you are laying there in a puddle of your own sweat, you will have to say out loud what you got. If its 1 reps or 500 reps, there should be a sense of pride and accomplishment of how YOU did on the workout. Sure there will be other scores up there but they are based on what THEY did. I say it all the time that for many of us, just showing up at the gym is a win. Maybe you have kids and crazy jobs and crazy hours or you have a ton of stuff going on in your life and it took everything just to get here. Then be proud of yourself for making it in and for doing the workout AND for the score that you got! Now on the flipside, EGO is what will get you messed up. It has nothing to do with you. In fact, it has more to do with others outside of you. What others might think. How heavy did they go? How come they can do this or that but I cant? If they are doing this weight then I need to! Etc. You cant be proud of yourself when you are worried about someone else and their successes. Everyone is on their own path and their own journey. Be proud of the journey you are on and enjoy the ride! :)
